10th Anniversary Jeep Wrangler JKU Rubicon

2013-jeep-wrangler-jku-rubicon-unlimitedChrysler recently unveiled the 10th anniversary Jeep JKU Rubicon. Jeep has become notorious for their special edition Wranglers, all of which are differentiated through unique badging. But the 10th anniversary Rubicon stands out from the rest. Unlike the 2013 Wrangler Moab, the 10th anniversary Rubicon comes standard with Dana 44’s, 4.10 axles, electronic lockers, and the heavy duty 4:1 Rock-Trac transfercase.

The differences between the standard 2013 JKU Rubicon and the 10th anniversary edition seem to be aesthetic with the exception of the winch ready front bumper, dual intake hood, and Mopar rock rails. Chrysler also claims that the 10th edition will have more ground clearance than the standard JKU Rubicon. This could be due to the removable end caps of the front bumper, which are steel encased in plastic.

Other differences include the availability of the Anvil paint color seen on the Mighty FC, plus special badging and a custom interior. All of this combined makes one of the most functional, and appealing, factory Jeeps ever. Available in Spring ’13 – the only remaining question is price.

Design Critique

Although the 10th anniversary edition Rubicon has been well received, some have already called out flaws in the design:

Designed for cooling and intake, the hood could also facilite water and snow drainage into the engine
No word on whether these are water proof or not
Muffler location
It’s easy to see why this is a concern – it’s current placement leaves it vulnerable to impact. If anything the muffler should be replaced first.
It seems as if most do not like the new wheel design.

Regardless, the people looking to buy the anniversary edition Rubicon will be the ones who modify it the most. So these minor critiques shouldn’t be of any concern.
